Will Muschamp was Arkansas’ new head coach as of, oh I don’t know, around two this afternoon. That lasted all the way up to five, when it was reported Bobby Petrino was resigning from the Atlanta Falcons to be the next head coach of the Razorbacks.
Which begs the question: How insane is the SEC West going to be next year? Petrino, who Auburn once sought to replace Tuberville in that undercover coach hunting known as jetgate, will now be at Arkansas. Tuberville, rumored to be the next coach for the Razorbacks, stays in Auburn. Former Arkansas coach Houston Nutt is hired by Ole Miss about ten minutes after being forced out. Les Miles, despite the fact he has a shiny new contract, is still somehow maybe-possibly still headed to Michigan.
On the purely Auburn front, it appeared that we would have to replace both coordinators all of the sudden. Al Borges resigned yesterday and Muschamp was the new head coach at Arkansas. In fact, Tuberville was “as good as gone” a week ago. Now, not so much. We’ll have a new offensive coordinator, Tony Franklin of Troy, and we’re going to run the spread offense. I think. I’m not really sure anymore, actually, because the media (coughrivals.comcough) has been a little jumpy in their reporting.
Recap. Petrino to Arkansas, replacing Nutt, who goes to Ole Miss. Les Miles is still in the running for the Michigan job. Tubs and Muschamp stay here, and Borges leaves, to be replaced by Tony Franklin. Auburn, spread offense, wow.
The fun’s not over. It’s just beginning, and man, I’m excited for the Peach Bowl.
