Bounce Back Time

Well, that was quite possibly one of the worst ways to lose ever. That was the worst I’ve felt after a loss after a game I had been to in person. I still feel like crap about it even on Thursday, and even though I take my football pretty seriously, I am able to get over most losses by Monday or so. For some reason, all three losses this year have come down to the wire. South Florida’s overtime win was the final play of the game, and Mississippi State made a goaline stand to stop us with under a minute left. This one was just really tough to swallow. Les Miles makes a stupid, stupid decision and it pays off.

The trip was enjoyable for the most part, I’m sure most would agree our hotel was pretty awesome except for lack of breakfast. The LSU fans were their usual drunk selves and while they were pretty annoying, only a few were really bad. Of course, it was an experience unlike any other anyway, but not quite as bad evidently as some people have said it was in the past.

This week, it’ time to take on the ESPN proclaimed worst team in the SEC, the Ole Miss Rebels. If I remember correctly, some guy with the last name Manning went there, but his first name was not Peyton and they haven’t been very good since Eli left. The one fun part about playing them is Ed Orgeron, the one SEC head coach you would not want to meet in a dark alley. He’s like the incredible hulk, only bigger.

Fun facts about this week’s game: This year, they are 0-5 in the SEC coming in. Auburn holds a 23-8 series lead and is 10-2 at home against the Rebels. This is the 18th consecutive year that the two schools have faced each other. Nine of the last 14 games have been decided by 10 points or less, and the two teams have split the last four games played in Auburn. The largest margin of victory in the series is 41 points when the Tigers defeated the Rebels, 41-0, in 1985. Auburn has scored a rushing touchdown in 24 of the last 25 meetings (1999 the only exception) in the series, and the Tigers have thrown for at least 230 yards in each of the last four meetings. The Tigers have held Ole Miss to less than 100 yards rushing in eight of the last 10 meetings, including an average of 54.5 yards over the last two seasons.

Last week hurt, but there are plenty of things to play for this season, including revenge over Georgia and the sixth straight over that other team.

Auburn vs. Ole Miss, 5 pm CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium. War eagle!
