A-Day has the tendency of being slightly boring, and this year was no exception. The offense was new, yes, but what new stuff did you see? The quarterback in shotgun every play. That’s about it. But hey, if excitement’s what you want, come watch the trombone intramural softball team. We’re electric. Anyway, Wednesday’s scrimmage was much more interesting. Kodi Burns completed his first ten passes and didn’t stop looking good the entire time. Tristan Davis had a 60+ yard touchdown run. And the defense, regardless of what it might sound like, looked very strong.
So what to expect for next year? Well, Louisiana-Monroe is the first time this new offense hits the field for real, and we all know what happened to that other school across the state when they played them. Nothing is a given, especially when the starting quarterbacks have almost no experience between them. But no worries. This team will be good. I’m not ready to declare them national championship material just yet, but the potential to be one of the best teams in the nation is there.
So keep waiting. We’re only five months away from real football in Jordan-Hare.
